Leadership and Building Capacity

An older gentleman once told me, "You are being prepared today for a tomorrow you know nothing about." These words have stayed with me for a long time. At the time, I could not imagine all the things that exist today. However, I was able to prepare myself mentally, emotionally, and spiritually for the changes. You, too, are preparing yourself today for a tomorrow you know nothing about.

We will read from the national bestseller text, The Way of the Seal: Think Like an Elite Warrior to Lead and Succeed.

Focusing on self-mastery and growth is the main point of the text.

Today, you will write about aspects of self-mastery that will allow you to use today to prepare for tomorrow to support yourself and others.

SELF-MASTERY AND LEADERSHIP
A primary task of leadership is to direct attention. To do so leaders must learn to focus their own attention. Leadership is a set of skills, behaviors, and character. To be the master of your own self is to fully understand who you really are. The types of leaderships I read in the text were servant leadership, situational leadership, visionary leadership, gung-ho leadership. The five mountains of development in skills are physical, mental, emotional, intuitional, and spiritual. I think leadership and self-mastery can prepare you for a tomorrow you know nothing about because if u mastered all the skills in the self-mastery you are now fully to your potential which means you are at your best state of mind and physically good too. And if you are your own leader you cannot be mislead by nobody else. So at least you will be ready for whatever tomorrow got to throw you because you know what you are capable of with good leadership and self- mastery. I think the SEAL gots a great development model to shaping people with their five mountains warrior training. I feel like it’s a good way to shape people out stronger in every way. I feel like that will do me good and change me in a lot of positive ways to be a better self- master and to be a better leader.

Self Mastery And Leadership

Leadership Is A set of skills, behaviors, and character. Self mastery is to be the master of your own self and fully understand who you really are, being the greater authority and taking charge over your own life. There are 5 mountains to really having leadership and self mastery over your own life. “The 5 mountains represent the development of skills in the physical, mental, emotional, intuitional, and spiritual arenas; the integration of these skills thus results in a more balance, whole-person growth”. I also believe genuine leadership must stem from the heart of an individual. “Therefore, you’ll find that the way of the seal is to predicated upon your commitment to fully develop personal discipline and an ethical stand”.

Self-mastery and Leadership
A primary task of leadership is to direct attention. To do so, leaders must learn to focus their own attention. Leadership is a set of skills, behaviors, and character. Self-mastery is to be the master of your own self, to fully understand who you really are. You can be a leader in so many different ways. One is leading a large corporation or leading a military army or leading a small business or leading a team, meaning a team or group of people intentionally coming together to accomplish a mission or set of goals. This could mean, a sports team, a volunteer committee, a department of employees, a married couple, or even a whole company or family. Some people treat leadership like a simple skill and fail to realize it’s much more than just a skill. If you lack an underlying commitment to self-mastery and growth, even the best theory won’t help you lead yourself or a team to success. In my opinion this text was one of the most interesting text I’ve read in a long time. For the simple fact it talks about leadership and self-mastery. In the text it states. “Strengthening in any one arena is relatively meaningless without the support of others, like a table with uneven legs.” This sentence stuck out the most to me and I agree with it. Because you can’t be a successful leader without the support and self-mastery you need. Another part of the text I agree with. It states, I believe genuine leadership must stem from the heart of an individual, regardless of and sometimes in spite of the organizational role or power system in which he or she is enshrined. Therefore you’ll find that the way of the seal is predicted upon your commitment to fully develop personal discipline and ethical stand. You’ll focus on becoming a good teammate before stepping into the leadership arena.
